International Legal English
International Legal English (ILE) focuses on the use of English within commercial law. Contract law, company law, intellectual property, real property law and sale of goods are a few of the context topics of the formal course. An ILE course is for learning legal English, not a course of law.
Those already practising or studying law as well as paralegals, legal assistants and others working with law firms and wishing to improve their English can benefit. Business people, professionals in the finance sector or anyone with an interest in law could also find the material a useful and stimulating context for language development. The formal course of study is ideal preparation for the International Legal English Certificate (ILEC) - an assessment tool for employers; an accredited recognition for individuals. A preliminary course is available too.
Aims:
- to improve your ability to read legal texts such as legal correspondence, contracts and documents
- to improve your ability to write common legal English text such as in letters or memoranda
- to increase your understanding of spoken English in meetings, presentations, &c
- to strengthen your speaking skills enabling you to contribute more effectively in discussions, interviews or meetings
- to introduce you to some of the language aspects of commercial law
